Unitree has introduced the H2-X, a new-generation humanoid robot intended for all-weather security and protection operations. The manufacturer highlights its dynamic mobility, its visual perception and its system of two swappable batteries.
The H2-X pairs a body with curved surfaces with a mechanical structure designed to withstand powerful movements. Unitree says its high-performance motors allow smooth movement and precisely controlled gestures. The manufacturer presents the model as a platform for security missions, without equating these announced capabilities with demonstrated operational performance.
Unitree H2-X size and weight: 65 kg or more, reinforced structure
According to the specifications released by Unitree, the H2-X stands about 170 cm tall and weighs 65 kg or more, depending on the model and configuration. Its body has 31 degrees of freedom, distributed across the whole structure.
The manufacturer uses a combination of aerospace-grade aluminium, high-strength engineering plastic and cushioning materials that can absorb part of the impact from shocks.
The joints use industrial crossed roller bearings, chosen for their precision and their ability to handle heavy loads. Unitree also mentions permanent magnet synchronous motors with low-inertia, high-speed internal rotors, designed to improve responsiveness and heat dissipation.
Unitree H2-X sensors: two cameras for perception
The H2-X combines a binocular depth camera and a wide-angle monocular camera. According to Unitree, this pairing improves the robot’s ability to perceive its surroundings.
For voice interaction, the manufacturer includes a microphone array and a high-power speaker. This hardware allows voice communication functions to be built into the platform.
Unitree H2-X battery: two hot-swappable packs and magnetic charging
The power system is built on an architecture with two hot-swappable lithium batteries. Unitree says it uses high-end batteries with low internal resistance and announces a quick-swap function.
The H2-X also has a magnetic charging system for the whole robot. This architecture is meant to make power management easier during operations.
Unitree H2-X compute options for developers
Unitree offers several hardware options to match the H2-X’s computing power to the intended applications.
For user development, the PC2 configuration offers a choice between an Intel Core i7 and an NVIDIA Orin NX. An optional PC3 configuration offers a choice between a Thor T5000 and an Orin AGX.
The manufacturer also points users who want to work on the robot’s features and applications to its secondary development manual.
Features still in development and safety warnings
Unitree states that some of the H2-X’s features are still in development and will be rolled out gradually. Specifications may vary depending on configuration and operating conditions, and the product’s appearance may change before the final version.
The manufacturer classifies the H2-X as a civilian robot and asks users to keep a sufficient safety distance from the machine, given its power and the complexity of its structure.
Unitree particularly advises private buyers to understand the limits of humanoid robots before making any purchase. The manufacturer also asks users not to make dangerous modifications and to comply with the laws and regulations that apply to their use.
