Agility Robotics has announced that it is working with Nyobolt on a fast-charging battery system for its Digit 5 humanoid robot. The two companies are highlighting one figure: a battery that delivers 90 minutes of runtime and recharges in nine minutes. According to Agility, that gives a run-to-charge ratio of 10 to 1, compared with 2 to 1 on Digit 4.
Energy management remains one of the hardest problems for humanoids meant to work around the clock, and Agility is turning it into a selling point. Daniel Diez, the company’s chief business officer, says Digit 5 will deliver more than 20 hours of productive work in a 24-hour day, the equivalent of more than two full shifts. He describes Nyobolt’s ultra-fast charging technology as one of the elements that make Digit 5 ready for full-scale operation.
What Agility wants from the Digit 5 battery upgrade
Founded in 2015 and based in Salem, Oregon, Agility describes Digit as a general-purpose robot built for work and already deployed commercially. In September 2026, it unveiled Digit 5, which has new legs, and said it was exploring wheeled locomotion.
Agility presents Digit 5 as its first humanoid designed to work in close proximity to people, safely and at scale, according to the company. The manufacturer is targeting longer operating windows and more demanding task sequences in warehousing, distribution and manufacturing. These runtime and charging figures are Agility’s own claims and have not been independently measured.
Who is Nyobolt, the Digit 5 battery supplier
Founded in 2019 and based in Cambridge, UK, Nyobolt says it combines proprietary anode materials, advanced cell design and integrated power electronics to enable fast charging, high power density, lower weight and longer service life. In May 2026, the company reached a valuation of one billion dollars after raising 60 million dollars, with backing from investors including Symbotic.
Sai Shivareddy, co-founder and CEO of Nyobolt, says his company’s technology was chosen because Digit 5 will need more power in a smaller, lighter package, in environments where reliability is not optional. He adds that Agility set a very high bar for what a battery must withstand in warehouses and factories.
Digit 5 availability: early access in the first half of 2027
NEURA Robotics unveils Neuron AI and plans 4NE1 laundry demo in Berlin
Agility plans early access to Digit 5 with Nyobolt technology in the first half of 2027. Availability is due to widen over the following six to nine months, according to the company.
Separately, Agility plans to go public through a merger with the special purpose acquisition company Churchill Capital Corp XI. In July, the company opened a software centre in Fremont, California. In October 2026, it partnered with FORT Robotics on robot safety. Its CEO, Peggy Johnson, has also joined Project Meridian, an initiative of the US Department of War.
