Meta has reportedly developed a humanoid robot with Chinese company Fourier in three months, according to reports published on 31 October 2026. The US group is said to be already working on a second version, but does not plan to sell these prototypes.
Meta is moving forward in humanoid robotics in collaboration with Fourier, a company based in Shanghai. The news, first reported by The Information and picked up by Reuters on 31 October 2026, is based on people familiar with the project. Reuters said it could not immediately verify the report independently.
How Meta’s first humanoid prototype was built in three months
According to the summary of The Information‘s article published on Techmeme, building the prototype took about three months. Meta reportedly worked with hardware technology Fourier had already developed in order to speed up the creation of this first version.
The project has apparently not stopped at a single machine: Meta is said to have started work on a second iteration. The work is part of an internal research effort. According to The Information, Meta said it does not intend to sell these units.
Who is Fourier, Meta’s Chinese humanoid robot partner
Based in Shanghai, Fourier is a robotics company founded in 2015 by Alex Gu and Zen Koh, according to its Wikipedia entry. Alex Gu is its chief executive. The company first developed rehabilitation equipment designed to help patients recover movement.
Fourier then turned to humanoid robots in 2019. Its experience in rehabilitation robotics has given it expertise in actuators and in the safety of physical interaction with humans, two important areas for developing general-purpose robots.
The collaboration therefore combines the US group’s development capabilities with Fourier’s experience in designing robots and mechanical systems built to interact with the human body.
