The Atom is the first bipedal humanoid from Dobot, a Shenzhen manufacturer known for its collaborative robots and listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange under the code 2432. Dobot presents it as a full-size industrial humanoid. It was announced in China in March 2025 with pre-orders opening at the same time, and went into series production from June 2025. It now comes in several versions, some of which do not walk. In Europe, it is listed by German retailers and a Shenzhen-based seller, often in a different version from the base model.

Dobot Atom launch: a bipedal humanoid announced in March 2025

Dobot launched the Atom on 18 March 2025. The Hong Kong daily The Standard reported a starting price of 199,000 yuan. Yicai Global said pre-orders opened the same day at that price and that series production was expected in June 2025. According to The Standard, Dobot cited collaborations with carmakers, electronics factories and coffee and tea chains, with the aim of trials and series production by mid-year. Yicai mentions pilot projects with carmakers, electronics factories and beverage chains. On the day of the announcement, Dobot shares rose 13.56% to close at HK$60.70.

In its press release of 30 June 2025, Dobot describes the Atom as “the world’s first full-sized humanoid robot combining dexterous manipulation with straight-knee walking”.

Official Dobot Atom versions

The product page on Dobot’s website names three versions: “DOBOT ATOM”, “DOBOT ATOM – Max” and “DOBOT ATOM D – Data Collection”.

Atom

This is the base model. The official product page credits it with “28 upper-body degrees of freedom”.

Atom Max

Dobot describes the Atom Max as a humanoid with 41 degrees of freedom, fitted with dexterous hands with 6 degrees of freedom each and a 1,500 TOPS AI module for real-time onboard computing. An optional “Embodied AI Set” includes an open-source training framework.

Atom D (data collection)

The Atom D is a version designed for data collection. It consists of two arms with 7 degrees of freedom each and a head with 2 degrees of freedom. Its end effectors can be customised: dexterous hands or grippers, and wrist cameras. It is not a walking humanoid.

Atom-W and Atom II

Dobot’s 2025 annual results list three humanoid products launched during the year: DOBOT ATOM (bipedal), DOBOT ATOM II (bipedal) and DOBOT ATOM-W, a wheeled version. The Atom-W does not appear on the official product page, but it is sold by OpenELAB. The retailer lists it at about 1,785 mm tall, with 20 degrees of freedom excluding the hands (2 for the head, 7 per arm, 4 for the waist), an arm reach of 600 mm, a payload of 3.5 kg per arm, repeatability of ±0.05 mm, an arm tip speed of 1.5 m/s and a 45 Ah battery.

Dobot Atom height, weight and degrees of freedom: figures vary by source

The press and retailers give different values for height, weight and the number of degrees of freedom. The table lists them with their source.

Source Date Height Weight Degrees of freedom
Yicai Global (press) 19 March 2025 1.5 m 62 kg 41
SFCCN (Chinese press) 18 March 2025 1.53 m 62 kg 41 in total, including up to 28 for the upper body
MONOist (Japanese press) 2 July 2025 165 cm 65 kg Up to 41, including hands
Dobot business update 3 February 2026 165 cm
Interesting Engineering (press) 4 February 2026 28, five-fingered hands
Unchained Robotics (retailer), “Dobot Atom” Page accessed on 22 October 2026 153 cm 62 kg

SFCCN adds an arm length of 600 mm and a precision of ±0.05 mm. The Chinese outlet also reports that straight-knee walking cuts energy consumption by 42% compared with bent-knee walking, and that the robot has learned more than 100 tasks. Unchained Robotics lists a payload of 7 kg, 600 mm arms, a maximum linear speed of 1.5 m/s at the tool centre point and “bionic five-finger hands”.

MONOist describes 7 axes per leg, the ability to climb steps of up to 5 cm, a Full HD binocular camera, an RGB-D camera, a 3D LiDAR and an Intel Core i9 processor. The Japanese outlet itself flags as doubtful its own sentence pairing 1,500 TOPS with 256-bit GDDR6.

Dobot Atom technology and demonstrated tasks

Dobot’s Neuro-Driven System (NDS) coordinates the arms and legs. In its Nagoya press release, the manufacturer cites three tasks: electronics soldering, precision calibration and cherry picking. The February 2026 business update mentions the DOBOT-VLA model and a three-stage quality control process: inspection of incoming components, assembly inspection, then final tests of dynamic balance and motion accuracy carried out on every unit.

According to Interesting Engineering, virtual reality control only operates the upper body. Dobot claims that it takes “as little as two hours” to go from a virtual reality demonstration to autonomous execution. This is a manufacturer claim, not backed by figures.

According to Leiphone, citing a company statement, an Atom works in a Shenzhen cinema 14 hours a day without assistance and sells more than 1,000 cups of popcorn a day.

Dobot Atom key figures: RMB 199,000 at its announcement in March 2025, €86,000 excluding VAT at German reseller Unchained Robotics, 28 degrees of freedom for the base Atom and 41 for the Max, and three batches delivered with no unit count published.

Dobot Atom production and deliveries

On 27 June 2025, in Nagoya, Japan, Dobot announced series production and worldwide delivery of the Atom. A first batch was delivered live during the launch event, organised in partnership with the Japanese integrator ASKA Corporation. More than 200 Japanese partners attended. Dobot published the corresponding press release on 30 June 2025.

On 3 February 2026, a Dobot business update, relayed by Tiger Brokers, announced the start of production and delivery of a third batch of Atom units, “deployed in batches for frontline industrial applications”. The outlet Gasgoo dates this event to 4 February 2026.

In Germany, Löhne-based Terra Robotics has put an Atom through practical testing. Interesting Engineering reports that its engineers found the movements stable and repeatable in a structured environment. They noted, however, limited capabilities for spontaneous decisions, intuitive reactions and on-the-job learning. The account comes from a LinkedIn post attributed to Murat Arpaci, described as managing director of Terra Connect GmbH.

The independent tracker There’s A Robot For That, consulted on 18 August 2026, rates the Atom at the “Demoing” stage, with the note “No verified customer on record”.

The Atom in Dobot’s financial results

Dobot does not publish revenue figures specific to the Atom. Its results group together all of its “embodied AI” products. In 2025, this business generated 20.042 million RMB, or 4.1% of revenue, up from 1% in 2024. In the first half of 2026, it exceeded 45 million RMB, growth of more than 20-fold. Depending on the passage in the document, this represents 14.3% or “nearly 15%” of revenue. Leiphone reports more than 60 million RMB of orders in hand in this segment.

Dobot claims 231 cumulative customers in embodied AI, nearly 100 of them industrial companies. It cites Valeo, Leapmotor, Keboda and an unnamed European cosmetics company from the Fortune Global 500. These customers relate to the embodied AI business as a whole, not to the Atom specifically.

Founder and CEO Liu Peichao told Yicai Global in April 2026: “Research was the main market last year, and the next step will be to enter the industrial and commercial markets.”
